About - Whitesnake
Whitesnake is a British hard rock band formed in 1978 by vocalist David Coverdale after his departure from Deep Purple. Initially conceived as a backing band for Coverdale's solo work, it quickly evolved into a standalone group. Their early sound was heavily influenced by blues rock, evident in albums like Trouble (1978) and Lovehunter (1979).
In the 1980s, they shifted towards a more commercially oriented hard rock and glam metal style, achieving international success. The album Slide It In (1984) marked a turning point, but their major breakthrough came with the 1987 self-titled album Whitesnake, featuring hits like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love". This album sold over eight million copies in the U.S., establishing the band as a leading act in the genre.
Despite numerous lineup changes, Coverdale has remained the constant member. In recent years, they released albums such as Good to Be Bad (2008), Forevermore (2011), and Flesh & Blood (2019). In 2021, they released The Blues Album, a collection of remixed and remastered blues rock tracks.
In 2022, they embarked on a farewell tour, which was interrupted due to health issues among band members. Coverdale has expressed interest in continuing the tour in the future, depending on health considerations.
