The Prodigy is a pioneering British electronic group, formed in 1990 in Essex. The core of the band consists of producer and main creative force Liam Howlett, vocalist Maxim, and the late Keith Flint, whose charisma and wild stage presence left an indelible mark on the group's identity.
The band developed a raw and powerful sonic aesthetic built on breakbeats, big beat, punk attitude, and rock-industrial energy. Emerging from the underground rave scene of the early 1990s, they quickly broke into the global mainstream and, with hits like Firestarter and Breathe, reshaped the image of electronic music for a new generation of listeners.
Their breakthrough album The Fat of the Land (1997) became a global phenomenon and one of the most successful electronic albums of all time—topping charts worldwide and cementing the band’s status as one of the most influential forces in modern music.
Following the tragic death of Keith Flint in 2019, Howlett and Maxim continued to create music and pay tribute to Flint while preserving the group’s legacy. In 2025, they returned to major festival stages with high-energy performances—including Coachella, where they delivered a moving tribute to their late bandmate and proved that The Prodigy remains a vital and relevant part of the electronic-rock landscape.
In recent years, they’ve once again headlined major summer festivals, with ongoing rumors of a possible Glastonbury appearance. Although no new album has been announced, Howlett has stated that his current focus is on the live experience—which remains the group’s hallmark: explosive, intense, and unforgettable.
The Prodigy continues to be a pioneering British force in electronic music.
