The Melvins

The Melvins are an American experimental rock and metal band from Washington, formed in 1983. They are considered one of the most influential groups in alternative music, as their heavy, slow, and raw sound paved the way for sludge metal and strongly influenced the development of grunge.

Their distinctive style combines elements of punk, hard rock, metal, and experimental approaches. They are especially known for inspiring Nirvana – Kurt Cobain was even their roadie in his youth. The albums Gluey Porch Treatments (1987) and Bullhead (1991) are considered essential works in their catalog, and they later proved themselves with innovative records such as Stoner Witch (1994), Houdini (1993), and numerous collaborations with other artists.

The Melvins are known for their unpredictability, constant experimentation, and incredible creativity – throughout their career they have released more than twenty studio albums. Despite their cult status, they continue to record and perform regularly, remaining a loyal and influential force on the alternative rock and metal scene.
