Slipknot is an iconic American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995. The group is known for its menacing masks, black jumpsuits, and intense stage performances. The current core lineup includes Corey Taylor (vocals), Shawn “Clown” Crahan (percussion), Mick Thomson and Jim Root (guitars), Sid Wilson (turntables), Craig “133” Jones (samples), Alessandro “V-Man” Venturella (bass), Jay Weinberg (drums until 2023), and since 2024, Eloy Casagrande, former drummer of Sepultura. Crahan remains the only original member from the early days and continues to be the driving force behind the band’s artistic vision.
Slipknot broke through with the albums Slipknot (1999) and Iowa (2001), which, with their blend of nu-metal, groove metal, alternative metal, and brutally honest, often dark lyrics, reshaped the musical landscape of the time. Their sound and visual style go beyond music—into the realm of performative theater, provocation, and physical catharsis.
With the release of their seventh studio album, The End, So Far (2022), the band retained its sonic ferocity while signaling a shift toward more diverse sonic landscapes. Alongside this, they announced the end of their long partnership with Roadrunner Records, marking the beginning of a new, independent creative era.
In summer 2025, Slipknot is expected to release a new, yet-untitled studio album, which the members have said is already more than 50% completed. At the same time, fans can look forward to the long-anticipated release of Look Outside Your Window, recorded back in 2008. This project—more melodic, introspective, and experimental—was created by only half of the band’s lineup and serves as a striking counterpoint to their usual aggressive metal aesthetic.
In 2025, the band is celebrating its 30th anniversary. They are marking the milestone with a world tour that not only commemorates the release of their debut album but also introduces new drummer Eloy Casagrande, who has brought additional technical intensity and fresh energy to the band’s sound.
Slipknot’s concerts are legendary for their relentless energy, pyrotechnics, visual chaos, and theatricality—offering a visceral, almost ritualistic experience for the audience.
Beyond music, the band is also the founder of the Knotfest festival project, which unites extreme acts from the worlds of metal, hardcore, industrial, and hip-hop around the globe, reinforcing Slipknot’s role as key curators of modern heavy music culture.
