Skrillex, real name Sonny John Moore, is an American electronic music producer, DJ, and vocalist, born on January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles. He first gained fame as the frontman of the post-hardcore band From First to Last, but after leaving the group in 2007, he launched a solo career that would go on to transform modern electronic music.
He achieved international recognition in 2010 with the EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, which helped define the sound of modern dubstep—characterized by heavy drops, aggressive basslines, and glitch effects. In 2011, he scored a global hit with the song Bangarang, and his signature style soon found its way into pop and rap production.
Skrillex is known for his collaborations with major artists—from Diplo (with whom he formed the duo Jack Ü, known for the hit Where Are Ü Now with Justin Bieber) to Kanye West, Missy Elliott, FKA Twigs, Burna Boy, Fred again.., and many others. His influence transcends genres, touching trap, future bass, hip-hop, pop, and techno.
In 2023, Skrillex released two highly acclaimed albums—Quest for Fire and Don’t Get Too Close—within the span of a single week, proving once again that he remains a leading innovator on the global electronic music scene.
