Rade Šerbedžija, born on July 27, 1946, in the village of Bunić in Lika, is one of the most respected actors from the former Yugoslavia who has also built a successful international acting career. He graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, where he quickly gained attention for his charismatic performances in classical theatre roles. He is known for his powerful, dramatic characters, as well as for his distinctive voice and poetic interpretations.
During the 1970s and 1980s, he became a star of Yugoslav film and theatre with roles in films such as Bravo maestro and Večernja zvona. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, he found success in Hollywood as well, appearing in blockbusters like Mission: Impossible II, Eyes Wide Shut, Batman Begins, and The Saint.
In addition to acting, Šerbedžija is also a musician and poet—he has released several albums featuring interpretations of chansons and poetry. In the 1990s, together with his wife Lenka Udovički, he founded the Ulysses Theater on the Brijuni Islands, which is now considered one of the most prestigious theatrical venues in Croatia.
