The main venue of Prešerno poletje in Kranj is located at Khislstein Castle. The Khislstein Summer Theatre is one of Slovenia’s most beautiful open-air venues, offering a vibrant program of large-scale performances by both domestic and international music artists. The courtyard of Khislstein Castle is adorned by a magnificent linden tree, which in July and August hosts the "Music Evenings Under the Linden Tree" every Wednesday. Khislstein Castle, located in what is now Kranj’s cultural quarter, was named in the 16th century after one of its owners, Janž Khisl. It is built into the city walls, which in this area remain nearly as they were 1,500 years ago. Once a fortified stronghold, today it is a place of culture and entertainment.
