Pet Shop Boys are one of the UK’s most enduring synth-pop duos, formed in 1981 in London by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. They skyrocketed to fame with their polished yet edgy debut single “West End Girls” and their 1986 album Please, forging a distinctive style that blends brainy lyricism with lush dance beats .
Over four decades, Tennant and Lowe have set records with 42 UK Top 30 singles—22 of which reached the Top 10, including four that hit #1—as well as 14 studio albums, all of which charted in the UK Top 10.
Their music, ranging from the stylish “It’s a Sin”—a powerful anthem born from the AIDS era—to introspective ballads like “Being Boring” and “Rent,” has earned them critical acclaim and an influence that spans both pop and queer culture.
Known for theatrical live shows featuring collaboration with acclaimed directors, designers, and architects like Derek Jarman, Zaha Hadid, and Es Devlin, the duo’s stage presence has elevated their concerts into pop theater spectacles.
From May 2022 through summer 2025, their Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live tour has played over 95 shows globally—headlining iconic festivals and venues like Seville’s Plaza de España, Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, Cardiff Castle, Low Festival in Spain, and more.
In 2024, they received MTV Europe’s Pop Pioneers Award, following earlier honors such as three Brit Awards, a Spirit of Independence nod, and the 2017 NME Godlike Genius Award. This spring, they've continued touring the UK with outdoor headliners including the Scissor Sisters.
Always evolving, they released the EP Lost in 2023—an acclaimed collection of unreleased tracks that reaffirmed their creative vitality —and are expected to drop their fifteenth studio album Nonetheless later this year.
