Paul Kalkbrenner is a German electronic music producer and live performer, born on June 11, 1977, in Leipzig, and raised in East Berlin. His musical journey began in the early 1990s, when as a teenager he started spinning techno records in youth clubs. He released his first EP in 1999 under the pseudonym Paul dB+ on the BPitch Control label, where he later released several albums, including 'Superimpose' (2001), 'Zeit' (2001), and 'Self' (2004).
In 2008, Kalkbrenner achieved international breakthrough with the lead role in the film *Berlin Calling*, in which he portrayed the DJ Ickarus. He also created the entire soundtrack for the film, which includes the hit "Sky and Sand," recorded with his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner. The track became one of the most successful German electronic songs, staying on the German charts for over 129 weeks.
Kalkbrenner is known for his energetic live performances, where he uses Ableton Live software, MIDI controllers, and other synthesizers to create music on the spot. Instead of traditional DJing, he prefers to perform his own productions live, which sets him apart from many other artists.
His discography includes several albums, among them 'Icke Wieder' (2011), 'Guten Tag' (2012), '7' (2015), and 'Parts of Life' (2018). In 2016, he released the project 'Back To The Future', a series of three mixtapes showcasing his perspective on the history of techno music.
In addition to his music, Kalkbrenner is also known for his role in *Berlin Calling*, which has become a cult classic among fans of electronic music. His ability to combine music production with acting talent makes him one of the unique artists in the world of electronic music.
