The Museum of Lost Tales in Zagreb is a one-of-a-kind cultural space that weaves together art, folklore, and multimedia into a truly immersive experience. Situated in the heart of the city, the museum serves as a gateway where ancient beliefs and mythological beings come to life through contemporary artistic interpretation.
The concept and design are the work of Zdenko Bašić, a renowned multimedia artist, illustrator, and storyteller who has devoted years to exploring Croatian mythology and long-forgotten folk tales.
Visitors journey through a series of thematic rooms, each dedicated to a different region of Croatia — from Turopolje and Pokuplje to Zagorje, Istria, and Dalmatia — discovering fairies, witches, water spirits, shape-shifters, forest guardians, and other creatures from the country’s rich folkloric heritage.
Through a captivating blend of illustrations, scenography, lighting, soundscapes, and puppetry, these stories are brought to life in a multisensory experience.
But the museum’s mission goes beyond preserving culture — it seeks to ignite imagination, spark curiosity, and deepen the connection to ancestral roots. Designed for visitors of all ages, it offers a space for learning, wonder, and reflection.
Each room unveils a new story, a new marvel, inviting guests to journey back to a time when tales were shared by the hearth and kept the spirit of the community alive.
