Mastodon

Mastodon is an American progressive metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2000. They are renowned for their highly complex compositions that blend sludge, progressive rock, metal, and even psychedelia. Through their conceptual albums, they have built a unique musical universe—such as Leviathan (2004), inspired by the novel Moby-Dick, and Crack the Skye (2009), which explores themes of cosmic journeys and spirituality.

One of their major breakthroughs came with Blood Mountain (2006), which brought them wider international recognition and a Grammy nomination. With Emperor of Sand (2017), they won their first Grammy Award for the song Sultan’s Curse. Mastodon are also known for their technically demanding live performances, which have secured their reputation as one of the most respected modern metal acts.

In recent years, they impressed audiences with the double album Hushed and Grim (2021), a tribute to personal loss and proof that the band continues to push boundaries with innovation and emotional depth.
