Mando Diao is a Swedish rock band formed in 1999 in Borlänge. They first gained recognition as part of the garage rock revival of the early 2000s, alongside bands like The Hives and The Libertines, but have since evolved into one of the most diverse and creatively bold rock acts in Europe.
Their music blends elements of rock ’n’ roll, pop, indie rock, and later electronic music and Swedish poetry. Their breakthrough came with the album Bring 'Em In (2002), which delivered raw energy and a retro British-inspired sound. This was followed by Hurricane Bar (2004) and Ode to Ochrasy (2006), which helped solidify their place in the European rock scene.
They are known for their catchy melodies, dual vocals (originally shared by Gustaf Norén and Björn Dixgård), and energetic live performances. In 2012, they surprised fans with a very different project—Infruset, an album in Swedish that set the poetry of Gustaf Fröding to music. It became one of their most acclaimed releases, especially in Sweden, where it earned them a much broader audience.
In the years that followed, they ventured into more modern sonic territories, incorporating pop and electronic influences on albums such as Good Times (2017) and Bang (2020). After Norén’s departure in 2015, Björn Dixgård took over the lead creative role, and under his direction, the band remains active and stylistically versatile.
