Maja Keuc, also known by her stage name Amaya, is one of the most recognizable Slovenian singers of the modern era. Born on January 16, 1992, in Maribor, she began her musical journey as a child in the English Student Theatre, and later as the lead singer of the rock band Hrošči. She first caught the public's attention in 2010, when she finished as the runner-up on the talent show Slovenija ima talent (Slovenia’s Got Talent).
In 2011, she represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf with the song “No One”, finishing 13th in the grand final—one of Slovenia’s best results in the competition. That same year, she released her debut album Indigo, which blended elements of pop, soul, jazz, and blues, and featured hit singles such as “Zmorem,” “Free Love,” and “Ta planet.”
After moving to the Netherlands, she studied solo voice at Codarts Academy in Rotterdam, and later continued her studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, graduating in 2016. During this time, she began performing under the name Amaya, and in 2016 released the album Fairytales, which received critical acclaim both in Slovenia and internationally.
