M83 is a French electronic project led by Anthony Gonzalez. Founded in 1999 in Antibes, the project blends dreamy pop, shoegaze, and ambient layers—often described as soundtrack-pop—most famously embodied in the global hit “Midnight City” (2011).
To date, M83 has released nine studio albums—from the self-titled debut M83 (2001) to the most recent Fantasy (2023). The discography also includes ambient explorations (Digital Shades Vol. 1) and the ambitious double concept record Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. In 2024, Fantasy was reissued as a deluxe edition featuring remixes by Sofia Kourtesis and The Soft Moon.
In March 2025, Gonzalez launched a new creative chapter with the founding of his own label, Other Suns, which will release the original soundtrack A Necessary Escape on June 27. The album was composed for the documentary Dakar Chronicles / Dakar: Race Against the Desert.
The new single “A Necessary Escape (Part 2)” already showcases M83’s signature cinematic and ethereal soundscapes, weaving ambient textures and expansive synthesizer-driven landscapes.
