He began his career at the local Radio Energy and gained national recognition in 2007 through appearances on satirical shows Radio Ga Ga and Hri-bar. He is renowned for his impersonations of public figures such as Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Angela Merkel, Pope Francis, and Luka Dončić, showcased in viral videos like "Putin, Putout".
In 2025, he represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "How Much Time Do We Have Left", inspired by his wife Mojca Fatur's battle with a serious illness. Although he did not advance to the final, his performance was noted for its emotional depth and sincerity. Slakonja continues to be active in music and comedy, currently working on his first solo album and performing with his Small Band.
