Kings of Leon is an American rock band formed in 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee. The group is made up of three brothers – Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill – and their cousin Matthew. They started out with a Southern and garage rock sound, which gradually evolved into a more polished, arena-ready style. Their first major success came in the UK, and they rose to global fame with the album Only by the Night in 2008.
Their biggest hits include songs like “Sex on Fire,” “Use Somebody,” and “Closer,” which topped charts around the world. “Use Somebody” earned them a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. Their sound blends elements of alternative rock, indie, and Southern influences, which has earned them both critical acclaim and a massive fan base. Albums such as Because of the Times, Come Around Sundown, and Walls solidified their status as one of America’s leading rock bands.
With more than two decades of music-making, sold-out tours, and prestigious awards, Kings of Leon continue to be a major force in modern rock music.
Their ninth studio album, Can We Please Have Fun, released on May 10, 2024, marks a fresh chapter for the band. Produced by Kid Harpoon, the album brings a rawer, more spontaneous sound that returns to their garage rock roots while embracing modern production. Tracks like “Mustang,” “Split Screen,” and “Nothing to Do” stand out for their energy and introspective lyrics. The album has received praise for its honesty and sonic diversity, reinforcing the band’s position as one of the leading rock acts of today.
