Josipa Lisac

Josipa Lisac is one of the most recognizable Croatian singers and icons of the regional music scene. Born in 1950 in Zagreb, she began her musical career as a young girl in the children’s choir of RTV Zagreb. She later performed with the bands O'Hara and Zlatni akordi, before launching her solo career in 1969.

A major turning point in her career came with the 1973 album Dnevnik jedne ljubavi, regarded as one of the most important works of Croatian rock music. Her best-known songs include O jednoj mladosti, Magla, Danas sam luda, Gdje Dunav ljubi nebo, Hir, hir, hir and Ave Maria. Her collaboration with Karlo Metikoš had a major influence on her musical career, and over the decades Josipa has developed a distinctive style at the crossroads of rock, pop, jazz and other musical influences.

With her extraordinary vocal interpretation, extravagant appearance and commanding stage presence, she is regarded as one of the greatest divas of Croatian music. In 2020, she received the Porin Lifetime Achievement Award.
