John Fogerty (born May 28, 1945, in El Cerrito, California) is considered one of the greatest icons of American rock music. As the lead singer, main guitarist, and songwriter for the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), he shaped a distinctive sound blending blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, and the signature "swamp boogie"—a musical legacy that continues to resonate worldwide.
In 2025, Fogerty celebrates his 80th birthday with a special project: the album Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years (to be released on August 22). This is a collection of 20 CCR classics, re-recorded by Fogerty—this time joined by his sons, Shane and Tyler Fogerty. The album represents a symbolic return to his roots, now on his own terms, after finally reclaiming the rights to his CCR songs in 2023, following decades of legal battles.
The first singles—Born on the Bayou, Lodi, Travelin’ Band, and Long As I Can See the Light—reveal a new dimension to the beloved hits: a mature voice, deeper emotion, and artistic freedom. Critics have praised the album as both a tribute to his legacy and a personal creative rebirth.
Fogerty began the year with a benefit concert for communities affected by wildfires in California, followed by a Las Vegas residency and an appearance at SXSW in Austin, where he participated in a conversation with Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine).
