Il Divo is an international vocal group formed in 2003 in the United Kingdom at the initiative of producer Simon Cowell. The group is known for its unique style, which blends classical opera singing with pop music, leading to the creation of a genre known as "popera" or classical crossover.
The original lineup consisted of:
Urs Bühler (tenor, Switzerland)
David Miller (tenor, USA)
Sébastien Izambard (tenor, France)
Carlos Marín (baritone, Spain)
After the tragic death of Carlos Marín in December 2021, American baritone Steven LaBrie joined the group in 2023 as an official member.
Since its inception, Il Divo has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, received more than 160 gold and platinum records in 35 countries, and reached the number one spot on music charts 50 times. In 2011, they received the "Artist of the Decade" award at the Classic Brit Awards, and in 2015, they were honored with the PPL Classical Award at the Silver Clef Awards.
In 2024, the group celebrated its 20th anniversary with the release of the album XX: 20th Anniversary Album, which includes covers of well-known songs such as "Despacito", "Hoy tengo ganas de ti", "Crazy", and the original track "Despertar Sin Ti".
Il Divo remains one of the most recognizable groups in the classical crossover genre, known for their vocal excellence, elegant stage presence, and ability to connect with audiences around the world.
