Hooverphonic is a Belgian band formed in 1995 in Sint-Niklaas, originally conceived as a trip-hop project. Over time, they evolved into one of the most distinctive sounds in alternative pop and electronic music. Their early single 2Wicky gained international attention through film and TV soundtracks, including Stealing Beauty and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it was in 2000 that they truly broke through with their biggest hit Mad About You, known for its sweeping orchestral arrangement and dreamy trip-hop feel.
Their career was solidified with albums like Blue Wonder Power Milk (1998) and The Magnificent Tree (2000), the latter also featuring the hit Out of Sight. Many of their songs have been featured in commercials and films, helping the band reach wide audiences. In Belgium, they have topped the charts multiple times and received numerous awards, including the ZAMU Award for Best Band and Best Album.
After 2000, Hooverphonic continued to explore new sounds, releasing the platinum-certified concept album Jackie Cane (2002), as well as orchestral projects like With Orchestra (2012), remix albums, and live recordings. After several changes in lead vocalists, longtime singer Geike Arnaert rejoined the band in 2020. Together, they represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song The Wrong Place.
Most recently, in 2024, the band released the album Fake Is the New Dope, which was praised by critics for its masterful blend of ambient pop, experimental touches, and introspective lyrics.
