Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn (of Blur) and artist Jamie Hewlett (co-creator of Tank Girl). The band is represented by four animated members — 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs — and is known for blending alternative rock, hip-hop, electronic, dub, and pop into a distinctive and innovative sound.
Their self-titled debut album Gorillaz (2001) was a worldwide success, featuring hits like Clint Eastwood and 19-2000. It was followed by the critically acclaimed Demon Days (2005), which included iconic tracks such as Feel Good Inc., DARE, and Dirty Harry.
Subsequent albums — Plastic Beach (2010), The Fall (2011), Humanz (2017), The Now Now (2018), and Cracker Island (2023) — further showcased the band’s experimental approach and diverse collaborations with artists across genres.
Gorillaz are celebrated not only for their genre-bending music, but also for their innovative use of animation, multimedia storytelling, and digital culture, making them one of the most original and influential acts in modern music.
