Fritz Kalkbrenner is a German singer, producer, and songwriter, born on May 28, 1981, in Berlin, known for his distinctive warm, slightly raspy voice and refined blend of deep house, soul, and electronic music. The younger brother of world-renowned producer Paul Kalkbrenner, he first gained recognition as the vocalist and co-author of the hit Sky and Sand from the film Berlin Calling (2008), which became one of the most iconic electronic tracks to come out of Germany.
Before fully committing to music, Fritz worked as a journalist for German television, but his creative drive soon led him to a career in production. His solo debut Here Today Gone Tomorrow (2010) showcased his signature style — house rhythms enriched with organic sounds, guitars, and melodic lines, elevated by his vocals. He went on to achieve success with albums such as Sick Travellin’ (2012), Ways Over Water (2014), and Grand Départ (2016), earning a solid international fan base.
In 2018, he released Drown, which explored more introspective themes, while True Colours (2020) offered a brighter, more colorful production, paired with his trademark warm groove. His works often balance the dancefloor energy of club music with emotional storytelling, making him popular both at festivals and for home listening.
Kalkbrenner is known for incorporating live elements into his sets, including live vocals and real-time instrumentation, giving his performances an intimate feel despite large stage settings. He also avoids typical EDM clichés, cultivating an artistic image rooted in the melodic and emotional side of electronic music.
