Ptuj Folk Music Festival
On the first Friday of September, the courtyard of the Minorite Monastery in Ptuj will host the 57th Ptuj Folk Music Festival, one of Slovenia's most prestigious traditional folk music events. Since its inception, the festival has played a vital role in promoting Slovenian folk ensembles, helping them gain national recognition while fostering the development of Slovenian folk music and preserving its high artistic standards.
This year, twelve ensembles will take to the stage on Friday, September 4, each performing one newly composed song. In addition, every ensemble will present a second piece selected from the rich heritage of Slovenian folk music.
A panel of expert judges will present awards for:
- Best Traditional Quintet
- Best Ensemble (Other Line-ups)
- Best Lyrics
- Best Vocal Performance (Koren Plaque)
The audience will select the Most Beautiful Song of the festival. Listeners across Slovenia will be able to follow the competition through participating radio stations and vote for their favourite songs online. The winning song will be determined by a combined score consisting of one-third online votes and two-thirds votes cast by the festival audience.
