Few artists have blurred the boundaries between classical and popular music as successfully as the world-famous Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu. Together with his charismatic stage presence and his 60-member Johann Strauss Orchestra, he combines musical excellence with surprises and humor, bringing each concert to a festive and joyful conclusion.
With Rieu, music becomes timeless and deeply emotional. As he himself puts it:
“Emotions are essential. When a piece of music touches my heart, I know it will touch yours as well.”
André Rieu has introduced classical music to millions of people worldwide and transformed the waltz into an international sensation, with even football crowds dancing to the music of Shostakovich. Beyond the music, his concerts are also a breathtaking visual spectacle. Members of his orchestra and soloists come from sixteen different countries. André operates his own costume atelier and travels with four stages and four complete sets of instruments, making it possible to stage concerts seamlessly across continents. Touring alongside André and the orchestra, the largest private orchestra in the world, are also a fitness trainer, a doctor, and three chefs.
Born into a musical family in Maastricht, the Netherlands, André Rieu is a global superstar, the world’s most successful violinist, and the best-selling classical artist of all time. His father was the conductor of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, and André began playing the violin at the age of five. In 1978, he founded his first ensemble, the Maastricht Salon Orchestra. In 1987, the ensemble was renamed the Johann Strauss Orchestra, which has since become the largest private orchestra in the world.
André Rieu has 22.5 million followers on social media, and his YouTube videos have amassed more than one billion views. As countless fans attest, André Rieu is not just an artist for one evening – he is an artist for a lifetime.
