Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier, February 4, 1948, Detroit, Michigan) is an American singer, songwriter, and rock music icon, widely known as the “Godfather of Shock Rock.” His performances combine hard rock energy with horror-inspired theatrics – guillotines, snakes, electric chairs, blood, and dark stagecraft – creating an entirely new genre of live spectacle that has influenced generations of artists, from KISS to Marilyn Manson.
He began his musical career in the late 1960s with the Alice Cooper Band, which quickly rose to fame with the albums Love It to Death (1971) and Killer (1971). Songs such as I’m Eighteen and School’s Out (1972) became youth anthems of their era. With Billion Dollar Babies (1973), which topped both the U.S. and U.K. charts, Cooper cemented his status as a global rock superstar.
After the original band split, Vincent Furnier adopted the name Alice Cooper as his official stage persona and pursued a solo career. The mid-1970s brought the ambitious concept album Welcome to My Nightmare (1975), widely regarded as one of his finest works. In the 1980s, he staged a major comeback, appealing to a new generation with hits like Poison and the platinum-selling album Trash (1989).
Over the course of his career, Cooper has released more than twenty studio albums, blending hard rock, glam rock, heavy metal, and theatrical performance into a unique artistic identity. Beyond music, he has appeared in numerous films and television shows (including Wayne’s World and Dark Shadows), becoming a pop culture icon recognizable by his trademark black eye makeup and over-the-top stage presence.
