David Morales (born August 21, 1961, Brooklyn, New York) is an American DJ, producer, and remixer of Puerto Rican descent, often regarded as one of the first "superstar DJs" . In the mid-’80s, he began performing at legendary New York clubs like the Loft and Paradise Garage, and even opened his own Brooklyn club, the Ozone Layer, marking his influence on the DJ scene.
He has produced and remixed over 500 tracks for top-tier artists including Mariah Carey, U2, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and more. He received Grammy nominations in 1996 and 1997, winning the 1998 Grammy for Remixer of the Year.
Key milestones include his collaboration with The Bad Yard Club (The Program, 1993), the hit single “Needin’ U” (1998) under the alias The Face, which topped dance charts and launched Def Mix’s success. In 2022, he released Life Is a Song via his DIRIDIM Records, which reached #1 on Traxsource’s album chart for three weeks.
Morales continues to tour globally, holding residencies like the long-running Montreal club Stereo, and pivoted online during the pandemic with Sunday Mass on Twitch. He remains committed to evolving house music, emphasizing its roots in LGBTQ liberation and the underground scene.
