Bruno Mars (born Peter Gene Hernandez, October 8, 1985, Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist of Hawaiian-Filipino and Latin heritage. He began his musical journey as a child Elvis Presley impersonator in his family band and later established himself as a solo artist in Los Angeles.
His first breakthrough came as a co-creator of hit songs for other artists, but global fame arrived with his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010). The chart-topping album featured the global hit Just the Way You Are, for which he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
This was followed by successful albums Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) and 24K Magic (2016), the latter earning multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best R&B Album. Bruno Mars is known for creating all of his hits himself – as a writer, producer, and performer.
He has performed at two high-profile Super Bowl halftime shows (in 2014 with Red Hot Chili Peppers and in 2016 alongside Beyoncé and Coldplay), and wowed audiences with his rendition of That’s What I Like at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
Since 2016, he has held a successful Las Vegas residency, 24K Magic, where, in the spirit of James Brown, Elvis, and Michael Jackson, he captivates audiences with dynamic performances, dance, humor, and commitment to live sound, accompanied by his band The Hooligans. He also became the first artist since Elvis to have more than three diamond-certified singles.
In 2021, he joined forces with Anderson .Paak to create the retro soul-funk superduo Silk Sonic. Their album An Evening with Silk Sonic received widespread acclaim from critics and fans, with the track Leave the Door Open winning multiple Grammys.
As of March 2025, Bruno Mars has won 16 Grammy Awards, including one for the song Die With a Smile (a duet with Lady Gaga), which topped the charts for five consecutive months. With over 150 million records sold and all of his #1 singles self-written, he ranks among the most successful and respected pop artists of the 21st century.
In spring 2025, he surprised fans with an unexpected collaboration with Rosé from BLACKPINK, with the two performing together in front of over 100,000 spectators – a moment that silenced rumors about his “debt” and highlighted his openness to new connections and strong support for Asian markets.
