Event details

The debut film from director Tijana Zinajić and screenwriter Iza Strehar won seven Vesna Awards at the Festival of Slovenian Film, including for Best Picture and the Audience Award. At the LIFFE festival, Bitch immediately sold out all screenings in Ljubljana.

The hottest Slovenian film in recent times will have its cinematic premiere on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture.

The location is not a coincidence, as the film screening and discussion with the team will be followed by a concert by the musicians who contributed music to the film. These include the most striking Slovenian indie rock band Koala Voice, (t)rap champions Matter, masters of lyrical artpunk balans, the new troubadour with a velvet voice and a sharp tongue Popotnik, legendary hardcore band Pizda Materna, fresh Ljubljana rap duo PTČ, internationally successful producer and DJ Ichisan, versatile artist and proponent of experimental beats Blaž, gentle, dreamy synth-pop quartet Futurski, hard-hitting bitter-sweet and highly catchy Čao Portorož, jazz trumpet master Tomaž Gajšt with a top-notch ensemble, and special guest, the evergreen Oto Pestner. As the only representative from abroad, one of the most important contemporary rappers from the region, Sajsi MC, will fly in from Belgrade.

Bitch, a Derogatory Term for a Woman is "the film that surprised and enchanted us the most. A film that is bursting with energy, life and affection for its characters. It does not play the minimalism card, trendy in European art film, but uses everything it is offered – from an avalanche of words to silence, from dancing to sitting in a small kitchen and drug trips. And it is good at everything. It is a film with a brilliantly directed cast, dynamics and some brand new, fresh film energy." – expert jury at the 24th Festival of Slovenian Film

… "is a radical film for radical times – a radical film about radical times. A film about the capitalism that is becoming increasingly difficult to integrate into. A film about the capitalism that radicalized people. A film that does not hide that we will need to live with this radicalization, after all, everyone is protecting it like the apple of their eye – as their new identity, as their new normal … HIGHLY IN FAVOUR" Marcel Štefančič

"You'll do the most if you fuck off to see Bitch in the spring, when the film comes into regular production. Really. Because if nothing else, that shot of Eva and her roommate Blaž … In years to come, it will or at least should be part of the collage of legendary, recognizable, essential scenes of Slovenian film. And Bitch is one of the (best) better Slovenian films. Seven Vesna Awards tell something, but the feeling in the cinema tells everything … 5/5" – Jaša Lorenčič

"It is one of those amphibians that easily navigate between Scylla and Charybdis: the taste determined by mass consumption and the higher standards of sworn film lovers." – Urban Leskovar, Koridor

"With its originality and exceptional execution, this latest Slovenian film product tears down all stereotypes of Slovenian film with its own hands and reopens ever-forgotten but increasingly topical social issues. 5/5" – Žiga Špile, Filmologija
