Event details

After leaving us agape with their thundering post-rock hurricane several years ago, the cult Canadian band Godspeed You! Black Emperor will again shake Ljubljana to the core. We can look forward to a presentation of material off of the band’s latest album Luciferian Towers, which many believe holds some of the band’s best work so far.

Since the Canadian collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor packed our Katedrala Hall alongside Dirty Threein 2012, much has happened. Among other things, the band received the rare honour of headlining two consequent nights at the famed Roadburn Festival, as well as released two great albums – Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress (2015) and Luciferian Towers (2017). Despite being the youngest, the latter boasts some of the best compositions of the band’s career, for example the beautiful “Bosses Hang”, and was named album of the year by numerous critics and listeners. After a dry spell of seven long years, we thus can’t wait for the band to once again envelop Šiška in their massive sound.

In their unique sound, the post-rock ensemble build their minimalistic experimentation out of prog rock, punk ideas, classical music and more, and are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the genre. They first set foot on stage in 1994, then went on hiatus in 2003 for seven years. Their first release after coming back, 2013’s ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!’, won them the Polaris Music Prize, and since then, the band has been diligently playing live and writing new music. They’re also notorious for their explicit, often sharp political views.
