Experts focus for this year - The geological treasures of DOLENJSKA, NOTRANJSKA and BELA KRAJINA

Experts and admires from Slovenia and abroad gather in Tržič, every second weekend in May. International Days of Minerals, Fossils and Environment is one of the largest such events in Europe. The event includes an exhibition on geology and palaeontology as well as specialist lectures and excursions to geologically characterized areas of Tržič area (The Dovžanova soteska Gorge, former quicksilver mine, etc.). The first exhibition took place in 1973. The initiator was the French town of Ste. Marie aux Mines. At first, it was a small local event but over the years, it has grown into a significant international event. First visitors were mostly geologists and palaeontologists. Today the event attracts over 3.500 visitors.
