Arena Zagreb, the largest sports arena in Croatia, was opened in 2009 and built for the needs of the 21st World Men’s Handball Championship. This impressive structure quickly became a symbol of Zagreb thanks to its functionality, beauty, and architectural design.
With a capacity of 18,000 spectators, Arena Zagreb is recognized for its multifunctionality and technical equipment, making it an ideal venue for hosting major sports and music events. So far, it has hosted numerous concerts by world-famous musicians and sporting events that had been impossible to organize in Croatia before its construction.
Construction of the Arena began on July 21, 2007, and lasted 503 days. The first event held in the Arena was a friendly handball match between Croatia and Russia on December 27, 2008, attended by 15,200 fans. Arena Zagreb was officially opened on January 17, 2009, with a concert by the band Prljavo kazalište, which attracted 22,500 visitors.
