Celje was one of the hosts of the 2004 European Championship. On October 3, 2002, Celje's representatives gave a decisive approval for the construction of a new sports hall. The foundation stone was laid on April 16, and the hall was completed in December 2003. From that point on, the Pod Golovcem Hall became the home venue for the handball team RK Celje Pivovarna Laško.
In the new “Pod Golovcem” hall, an intense atmosphere is created, which, in its very first season, contributed to the greatest achievement in Slovenian handball history: winning the European Champions League title!
In 2019, the hall underwent renovations, including the installation of LED lighting and a new sound system. It also became the first cashless sports hall in Slovenia.
