Steel Panther is an American glam metal/hard rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2000 (originally under the names Metal Shop and later Metal Skool), that rose to fame with a parody-driven yet musically virtuosic take on the 1980s glam metal aesthetic. The band’s members are Michael Starr (vocals), Satchel (guitar), Lexxi Foxx (bass; until 2021), and Stix Zadinia (drums). After Lexxi’s departure, Spyder joined as bassist.
Their style blends the classic glam metal sound with exceptional instrumental skills and humor, often centered around provocative, satirical, and overtly sexual lyrics. They are known for flashy stage costumes, big hair, and constant audience interaction.
Their debut album Feel the Steel (2009) was packed with humor and paid homage to the ’80s glam scene through songs like Death to All But Metal, Community Property, and Asian Hooker. It was followed by Balls Out (2011), All You Can Eat (2014), Lower the Bar (2017), Heavy Metal Rules (2019), and On the Prowl (2023). While their lyrics are often parodic, critics acknowledge their technical proficiency and high-energy performances.
Steel Panther regularly perform at major festivals and clubs around the world, with shows often lasting over two hours and featuring comedic improvisations, audience participation, and a “time travel” atmosphere that transports fans back to the glam metal heyday.
