Suzy Eddie Izzard (born February 7, 1962, in Aden, now Yemen) is a British comedian, actor, activist, and a pioneering figure in contemporary stand-up comedy. Known for her signature stream-of-consciousness style, absurd storytelling, and socio-political satire, she continues to push the boundaries of the comedic form.
Her career began on the streets of London and American cities as a street performer. She broke into the mainstream in the 1990s with acclaimed stand-up specials like Dress to Kill (1998), which won her two Emmys, followed by global tours such as Force Majeure (2013) and Wunderbar (2022).
As an actor, Izzard has appeared in numerous films (Ocean's Twelve, Valkyrie, The Lego Batman Movie) and TV shows (The Riches, Hannibal), and has voiced characters in animated works like Green Eggs and Ham. In 2024 and 2025, she captivated audiences with a one-person adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with an international tour that extended runs in New York, Chicago, London, and Seattle. Critics praised her remarkable memorization and seamless character transitions—though some noted a lack of distinct tonal shifts between roles.
Izzard is also a passionate humanitarian. In 2009, she ran 43 marathons in 51 days across the UK, and later, 27 marathons in 27 days in South Africa, raising millions for charity. A dedicated polyglot, she speaks six languages—including fluent French, German, Russian, Spanish, and some Arabic.
Politically engaged, Izzard is a vocal advocate for European values, voting reform, and equality. She has been involved with the UK Labour Party, even serving on its executive committee and making a bid for parliament. She identifies as gender-fluid and uses both she/her and he/him pronouns. Since 2023, she has embraced the name Suzy, while leaving it open for others to address her however they prefer.
