“The Valkyrie” is the second part from “The Ring of the Nibelung” by Richard Wagner. Wagner’s leitmotiv technique runs through all four parts and unites them. The poetry is in a new free rhythm and through stave rhymes in a bound text form. The story is comprised from the Middle High German Nibelungenlied and also the ancient Nordic Edda poetry. The works on “The Ring of the Nibelung” was interrupted in 1857 and was reconvened only twelve years later. The first entire performance took place during the first Bayreuth Festival in 1876.
